I am a product design engineer with both logical and innovative thinking. I am accustomed to integrating data analysis and design experimentation into the design process to provide evidence for project development. My knowledge in materials science and production assists me in determining the feasibility of designs.
Due to my experience in medical device work and personal background, I chose cardiac arrest as the design context. During my research, I found that the low utilization of public defibrillators is a significant reason for the low survival rates among patients currently. However, the high-risk population for sudden cardiac arrest has fewer opportunities to use public defibrillators due to: 1. Limitations in the number of bystanders and 2. Long distances.
To address the aforementioned issues, I designed a responsive system based on a defibrillator storage cabinet. When a cardiac arrest occurs, responders around the cabinet can quickly access the defibrillator and bring it to the patient’s side. This approach alleviates the limitation of the number of bystanders near the patient and effectively reduces the travel distance by half.
