Ellen Crofton (she/her)

Through moving image, performance, sound, and installation, In Shadow She Falls seeks to capture an all-embracing chaos, an everything; a space that gives, allows, and distorts. Unearthing limits, moving with, and without, finding ways to dance in the chaos, the uncomfortable – to celebrate or to find ecstasy in states of unknown. Remembering our bodies and intuitive relations in chaotic internal and external environments. Moving among membranes, finding an underneath and not allowing betweens; queering the real and imaginary realms.
Ellen is an image-maker, text-maker, and sound-maker, working mainly with lens-based mediums. Through moving image, photography, projection, movement, text, sounds, and installation, Ellen seeks to distort surroundings in the hope to find connection between environment and the body. Through live performance Ellen exhibits an immediate connection between the body and materials from the natural environment. Texture is a keyword in her work; she hopes to find visual textures and those of movement. Ellen approaches her practice via an anti-capitalist, ecological, queer, and utopian lens.
